My name is Gaila, and I started this blog cause I want it to share my passion for good food, easy recipes, traveling and having new culinary experiences. The Petit Gourmet comes from a coffee shop and bakery I used to own and closed in 2012, but people just keep calling me that and the name just got stuck with me.
I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic (In the middle of the Caribbean), my father is Spanish, my mother is 50 % Dominican, 25 % Chinese and 25 % Italian! I know! I know, try explaining that to small children! and then I went and marry a handsome French guy who was born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco! so we are your average typical family! In our house we speak currently French, Spanish, and my husband and I chose English to discuss serious matters without the children understanding us, so for me it was kind of normal to write in English, as food is a very serious matter for me!
So for me it is pretty normal to cook, different family recipes from all over the world! Most of the time I cook for my husband and for our two girls, trying to make a menu for these is three not always easy but I try to do my best, I love knowing that I am serving my family the healthiest possible food I can. Always trying to balance proteins, vegetables, cereals and legumes; but most important of all making it tasty!
I studied Hotel management and had been in front of the house and in the back as well. But it has always been about the food and experiences involving it, buy groceries, cooking, plating, serving. I have lived here in the DR and in France, and I am lucky enough to travel frequently! love tasting new things and visiting markets where ever I go! and I will try to share my adventures with you all.
Patrick and me!
So thanks for stopping by, I hope you’ll find my recipes easy and become part of your family weekly menu! 🙂
